MEET BLAKE

Blake Mundell is a Licensed Massage Therapist specializing in sports work, as well as a Massage Therapy Instructor and Continuing Education Provider. He’s worked on the medical staff of the Tennessee Titans since 2014, and co-founded the well-known Nashville recovery clinic Revive Sports Recovery in 2017, which he co-owned and operated until his departure in 2024. He teaches at the Mind Body Institute—a massage school in middle Tennessee with a clinical emphasis. He offers continuing education for Ethics, Sports Massage, and Clinical Concepts

Blake pulls from various modalities when working to help you meet your goals—whether that’s pain reduction, injury recovery, or better performance.

His sessions can often include any of the following. In addition he can do full FST, Somatic Experiencing, and Manual Lymphatic Drainage sessions as well.

WHAT SESSIONS MIGHT LOOK LIKE

  • SPORTS MASSAGE

Contrary to popular belief, sports isn’t a separate modality of massage, but a context within which a bodyworker uses all the tools at their disposal to help clients meet sports-related goals. Sports work is characterized more by knowledge about how and when to apply tools at different stages of an athlete’s workout schedule, rather than by a set of techniques. This is why sports LMTs often have large tool belts.

  • CUPPING

Blake is trained in soft moving cups, glass fire cupping, and Achedaway red light cupping. He applies these tools liberally during sessions for various purposes, and to achieve various outcomes depending on your goals. Most often, he uses them as a myofascial and lymphatic tool.

  • FASCIAL STRETCH THERAPY

Blake is trained in various stretching modalities, such as AIS, PNF, and FST. He holds a level II certification in FST—a modality characterized by passive table-based pain-free stretching involving traction and slight changes in the stretch angle. He regularly incorporates AIS for neuromuscular re-education, and PNF for reinforcing strength in the end range of movement.

  • MYOFASCIAL RELEASE

This work involves low emollient and high tissue stretch to affect the connective tissues surrounding both muscles and muscle fibers.

  • TRIGGER POINT THERAPY

Blake incorporates principles from Neuromuscular Therapy (trigger point therapy), as well as other pin and stretch modalities that use the principle of reciprocal inhibition to achieve relief from trigger points. The client is often active.

  • MANUAL LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE

This type of bodywork uses extremely light pressure with a global approach to stimulate the efficiency of the lymphatic system in order to assist with edema, pain, and inflammation. Great for swelling after an injury.

  • SOMATIC EXPERIENCING

Blake also practices a type of trauma therapy. This is a “bottom-up” intervention involving accessing trauma from sensations in the body. It’s often said in the training room that players “recover in their bodies before they recover in their minds.” Somatic Experiencing assists in bringing the athlete’s nervous system back into homeostasis after injury.

  • KINESIOTAPING

Blake is trained both in Kinesiotaping and Rock Tape methods. He most often uses kinesiotaping for neuromuscular re-education and lymphatic applications.

  • IASTM TOOLS

Sessions sometimes include various other soft tissue tools, such as, but not limited to, scraping, massage guns, compression therapies, heat therapies, and TENS therapy.

✺ Frequently asked questions ✺

  • Athletic attire works great, especially for FST sessions, or sessions focused on a particular problem area. For more global bodywork sessions, sheets may be used like in more traditional massage sessions.

  • Hopefully there’s nothing “regular” about your experience here! We’ll chat about what your goals are and meet you where you’re at. Some clients prefer whole-body work that looks and feels very much like a “regular” massage, while others seek help with injuries or conditions or performance goals, and those sessions can look like many different things. We’ll mold it into what you need, and I’ll walk you through the process.

  • My table is for anyone and everyone. Full stop.

  • That depends on your goals, as well as the modality we’re working with together. Clients seeking regular “maintenance” work usually come to see me every 2-4 weeks, while clients working on specific conditions or injuries generally come in more often until we can break into the maintenance phase.

  • From July - January, my schedule gets tight. Booking in advance is a great way to get on the books.

If you see that I have availability, but no times that work with your schedule, email me at blake@thehandsteam.com in case I might have wiggle room.

  • Yes, approved on an individual basis. There’s a $40 outcall fee for any off-site work.
